The talk will present a body of work showing how driver modeling may serve as a basis for designing advanced driving assistance systems. The driver modeling work aimed at explicitly representing the visual and motor processes involved in the control of steering, in accordance with current knowledge in perceptual sciences. Two design applications will be considered: building an automatic controller for haptic shared control of the steering wheel and estimating the driver state in various distractive conditions.
