ELLIS, the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems, is a pan-European excellence network for Artificial Intelligence focusing on fundamental research, technical innovation and societal impact.
Founded in 2018, ELLIS builds on machine learning as the driving force of modern AI and aims to safeguard Europe's sovereignty in this competitive field by creating a multi-center AI research laboratory. ELLIS aims to ensure that AI research is conducted at the highest level in Europe's open societies and pursues a three-pillar strategy to achieve this.
There is a significant interest in ensuring that Europe does not fall behind in this sector, which is considered critical to our future. ELLIS will explore new ways to promote innovation. It will provide a well-defined interface with industry partners and support the creation of start-ups. This will counteract the brain drain, stimulate the economy and ensure Europe's technological sovereignty.
