The Max Planck Society celebrates these three anniversaries with a Germany-wide Max Planck Day. The Max Planck Day is a major science festival and is aimed for people interested in research and anyone else who is curious. With the Max Planck Day, all institutes of the Max Planck Society simultaneously address the public to present their research and thus show how diverse and exciting the spectrum of the Max Planck Society is. Therefore, a symposium on artificial intelligence and society will be held at the Max Planck Campus in Tübingen. In the evening, the local institutes invite you to a science-slam: Scientists from each Institute present their research in short and entertaining slots, moderated by the comedian and television presenter Helge Thun.
In the later evening the campus will be fully illuminated: Several selected buildings are highlighted with artificial light projections and staged with reference to Max Planck and science. This creates atmospheric lighting accents on the grounds of the event. The highlight will be a 5 m high, head-shaped sculpture illuminated from the inside. This sculpture will show pictures and sequences dealing with science in general, the Max Planck Society in particular and the various fields of research on the campus. At a get-together our guests have the opportunity to meet the scientists, discuss their research, but also to wine down!

Our scientists on the campus open their laboratories from 2 pm. How did the basic building blocks of life come about? How differently does a plant like Arabidopsis develop in different regions? How do researchers observe evolution? A look at the laboratories of the Institute of Developmental Biology will focus on these questions. At the Institute for Biological Cybernetics visitors can dive into virtual worlds, watch impressive motion simulators and explore the interaction of the senses. Visitors can also marvel at huge magnetic resonance tomographs. The new building of the Institute for Intelligent Systems opens its laboratories for robotics and computer vision. Experience the robots in action as well as the current research and experiments around avatars!

The departments and research groups at the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology combine the major topics of development and evolution. The researchers explore elementary processes such as the development of complex organisms that occur countless times in animals and plants, the details of which are far from all known. They want to know how complicated substances such as today's proteins have developed in evolution, how living organisms adapt to their location and new species develop in the process - in short, how evolution works.
The Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics researches information processing in the brain of humans and animals. The scientists at the institute are investigating how a consistent picture of the environment and the appropriate behaviour can be generated from the diverse and continuous sensory information. Scientists from three departments and several research groups are working to answer these questions with a broad experimental and theoretical spectrum of methods - from electrophysiological departments and imaging procedures to virtual reality (VR).
The Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems has two locations in Stuttgart and Tübingen and combines top research in theory, software and hardware in the field of intelligent systems under one roof. Research in the fields of machine learning, machine vision and robotics at the Tübingen site is investigating how intelligent systems process information in order to perceive, act and learn. Our location in Stuttgart is home to leading expertise in the fields of micro- and nano robotics, haptics, human-machine interaction, bio-hybrid systems and medical robotics.
